Dear Dr. Kathryn Schak, Lydia Stiehl, Mike Hanratty, and Bishop Robert Barron,
I am writing to express my profound concern about the ongoing forced psychiatric treatment of David Russell, who has now been electroshocked 17 times at Mayo Clinic against his will, causing significant cognitive harm, some of which may be permanent.
David is being forcibly subjected to these treatments under the authority of his appointed guardian, Lydia Stiehl from Catholic Charities of Southern Minnesota. It appears that these actions are a form of retaliation after David simply asked for access to his financial information – a basic right. David states that while he may have raised his voice slightly in frustration, he did not engage in any threatening or violent behavior.
What has David done wrong to warrant this extreme treatment? On what asserted grounds of dangerousness is his continued incarceration and electroshock being justified? From all accounts, David is being punished for asserting his basic rights, and his situation demands urgent attention.
I respectfully urge you to take immediate steps to:
Release David from psychiatric incarceration and cease further electroshock treatments, as he does not consent to them, and they are actively damaging his health.
Provide David with his financial information as he has requested, a right that should not be denied.
Clarify the specific grounds for his continued detention and treatment. If David is not a danger to himself or others, he should be released immediately and allowed to manage his own legal and medical decisions.
David deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, and his rights should not be further violated. I implore you to take action to rectify this injustice and ensure that David is no longer subjected to harmful treatments that he has not consented to.
Please, for the sake of his well-being and human rights, intervene to release David and stop this mistreatment.
